For reaching out, couple taking home Citizen of the Year honors Howell busisess owners

DAILY PRESS & ARGUS • January 28, 2010

Peter Bowen and Charlotte Swann said they love to attend the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner. However, this year's event, held Wednesday night, took their breath away as they were unexpectedly awarded the 2009 Citizen of the Year honor.

"I am deeply touched," Swann said after accepting the award at Cleary University's Johnson Center in Genoa Township. "I don't cry very often, but I'm pretty close."

One of the couple's daughters, Jennifer Baker, flew in from Switzerland to congratulate her parents, who received the award for their community service
and contributions to Livingston County.

HHS 1963 Class Ring Finds Way To Owner 45 Years Later!

Caroline Dayton Gabel received a phone call from someone that had
found a ring years ago.  The woman had read in the newspaper that the "Class of '63"
was having a reunion and it was her hope that the ring from that class could be
    returned to its owner.

The reunion took place and with all the fun and excitement throughout three days,
    the owner was not located.

A few weeks later Caroline, her husband Denny, and daughter Debbie,
went to visit Barbara MacDonald Nelson and her husband Jer in Oscoda.
The ladies went on a "mission" to find the owner of the beautiful ring!

After some research, they surprised Marjorie Wright Chinn with a phone call.
Marjorie described the ring perfectly, and yes it was hers!

It seems that Marjorie was dating Jim Duncan, another '63 classmate,
and she had given him her ring.
They had gone to a party and her ring was put on his key chain for safe keeping.
Someone stole the ring.....gone forever or so they thought!

Marjorie was thrilled and remarked, "I never thought I would see the ring again!"

Such a small memory of the past....but now a treasure to cherish once again,
    forty-five years later!
